Green Brothers

Brothers Joe (1892-1939) and George Hamilton Green (1893-1970) were xylophone artists. They also played marimba, vibraphone, harpaphone, bells and chimes. They became a recording team in early 1919.

The Green Brothers' Novelty Band was introduced in a the Victor Records June 1920 supplement as "another new Victor Dance Band... The orchestra is largely made up of brass instruments , the sweet, clear tones of cornets being used with quite thrilling effect. Other brasses sustain the harmony, through which, there tinkle the steel-blue notes of xylophone."

They recorded for many record companies including Okeh, Victor and Edison.

("The Encyclopedia of Popular American Recording Pioneers: 1895-1925," by Tim Gracyk, contains significantly more information about the Green Brothers.)
