You
will hear some surface noise and some continuous thumps, especially during the
first minute
of this performance. This surface noise is frequently hear in diamond discs from
this period. Some of Edison's experiments with different recording surfaces produced
the surface noise. (More information) The
thumps may be cause by a record surface
that
was not flat
causing the playback cartridge and stylus to rise and fall with each revolution
of the disc.
Tech Tidbits:
"The Preacher and the Bear" was
transferred using a 3.3 mil elliptical stylus in a Stanton 500 stereo
cartridge
at 80 rpm on a United Audio Dual 1219 turntable.
